Hello.

I'd like to ask:

What happens after the lifespan of a PC? I have a PC that is about 6 years old now. Will it not work anymore if it reaches its lifespan? Will it overheat or anything? Thanks.

Solution
A computer's lifespan is equal to how long the computer remains useful to any given user. It does not mean it will over-heat, blow up, or simply not function after some arbitrary time frame.

The major factors which determine the lifespan of a typical computer are dust and voltage through the CPU.

Dust is a common enemy which can be kept at bay by cleaning the PC thoroughly, twice a year.

Voltage through the CPU is well something no computer can get rid off. The current passed through each and every component wears it out eventually, no matter how sophistically we use it. But it's a good thing that it takes fairly long for a PC to die that way.

I have an 8 year old OEM still going strong as my HTPC with no signs of wears (like BSODs without any issues, freezes, etc).

Different perspective - the major factor that determines the useful life of a PC is its attractiveness. If it is no longer desirable, then you'll want to get something better. Even if it works 100% OK.

This is usually at about 5 years max - in the US anyway.

When the build complains about gfx visuals, makes strange noices when getting up in the morning, too many random restroom stops during lan nights etc, i would consider finding a retirment home. ;)
