I am using an AMD Athlon II x3 450 CPU on Asus M4A785TD-V EVO board. Previously I hand two 2GB non-ECC 1333MHz dimms installed and hand no problems.

Now I wanted to replace the two dimms with one Kingston KVR13LE9S8/4 which is a ECC memory. With the old mem installed I entered the bios setup and enabled ECC. Then I turned off the computer and replaced the ram, but with the new ram installed the computer won't start. I can't even enter the bios setup any more, there is no video output at all. With the old mem installed, there was a single beep every time I started the computer, but now there is no beep. The fans and hdds are running.
(With the old mem reinstalled the computer starts again.)

From reading the board manual I thought that my board will support this ram. Is the new ram damaged or did I misunderstand the manuals?

Hi esel,
I'm Jewel with Kingston US Technical Support and would like to offer some clarification. While part number KVR13LE9S8/4 is a DDR3L-1333 Unbuffered ECC module, it is not compatible with the Asus M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard. Our low voltage memory is actually dual voltage it can run at either 1.35V or 1.5V depending on what is supported by the system. The reason this memory is not compatible, as Tradesman1 mentioned, this memory is made with 4Gbit DRAM chips. That makes this memory high density and that motherboard does not support high density 4GB memory modules or memory made with 4Gbit DRAM chips. We no longer support the Asus M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard as we no longer manufacture memory that is compatible with it. If you are...

On the Asus website, it says that it supports non-ECC unbuffered memory, up to DDR3 1800. It doesn't say anything about ECC memory. ECC memory works on some Non-ecc motherboards and doesn't work on the majority. If it's unbuffered ECC memory, it should work. I'm guessing that your RAM must be buffered. Like Emerald said, you should try and reset your BIOS (take out the CMOS 2032 cell, wait for 10 minutes and put it back in again).

While it does support both ECC and non-ECC DRAM, don't think it supports low voltage - this is a 1.35 stick, also believe this is one of their newer that is made w/ 4Gb memory chips which I don't believe are supported. Might send a PM to KingstonHQ that's Kingston's rep here on the forums

I did not reset the bios, but I will try that now.

The ram is unbuffered (according to my vendor) and according to the printed version of of main board manual it supports 4G ECC unbuffered ram:
"You may install 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB unbuffered ECC and non-ECC DDR3 DIMMs into the DIMM sockets."

I did not think that the low voltage thing, can cause problems.

If you are looking for ECC memory part numbers that will work with that system, you can look up your system in our Discontinued Models search. Some resellers may still have some of the discontinued memory available. Check it out here: http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/discontinuedsystems/Default.aspx

Thank you for using Kingston memory.
