Hi,
I have a Lenovo H30 desktop with Intel on board graphics. I tried installing a MSI ATI HD 5450 card. When I power up the desktop after installing there's just a black screen. I have gone into device manager to disable the onboard graphics and also into bios to check the priority is set to the pci-e slot but still no luck.

Try reseating the graphics card again, then...
Connect all necessary power connectors and connect display connector to GPU.
Disable onboard graphics thorugh the bios, and enable graphics to pci-e slot.
After that see if there is any result (still no output or not).

If there is, go online and install AMD drivers for your specific card ONLINE.
Tell me what happens else.

Thx for the replies.
I downloaded the latest drivers and double checked that the card was inserted correctly but still nothing. I get nothing on my screen when I boot up the pc. If i plug my monitor into the onboard vga connector it doesnt work either when the graphics card is inserted.

Can I disable the onboard graphics in the bios? All I can do is set it to PEG, Auto or IGB. The only way I can disable the onboard graphics is via control panal>device manager. Im running Win 8.1

IGD means Integrated Graphics Device and PEG means PCI-E Graphics. So choose PEG. See if that helps. But are you making sure the display connector is on the GPU?

What do mean by 'display connector is on the GPU'? The cable from the monitor to connected to the vga output connector on the graphics card.

Yeah I mean that, but if you tried the drivers, made sure everything is connected, and you still have no output...I don't have anything left to say. It's probably dead (it's really old too, hope you got it new or-else it might be probable to be dead by now). Contact MSI in that case. Just as WildCard999 said, try to use it on another computer.

It looks like the Lenovo H30 comes in 3 different forms, all of which are the 1150 socket (based on the cpu types). I can't imagine that the mb wouldn't be able to support that gpu unless it plugged into the wrong PCI-E slot (might be the case).

I did find a basic view of the MB through the H30 user guide download (doesn't detail the model) but it does come with basic picture which appears that theres only one PCI-Ex16 slot (should work). And per the specs of the gpu it should work fine. I think either the pci-e slot or gpu is bad but you wont be able to figure it out unless you try it in a different computer. Also that gpu shouldn't require additional power but check the card and see if theres any 6-pin or anything that looks like a 6-pin connection on the gpu and if so you will need to hook your power supply up to it. Your best bet at this point is to try it in a different computer, best of luck!

Thx for the replies. I managed to try the card in another desktop running XP and the card works fine so i'm unsure what to do next. I reckon it has to do with disabling the onboard graphics but I have tried what I can to turn it off. It gives me a option of uninstalling it from the control panel, shall I try that?

I did that myself and it SHOULD resolve some problems. Do it and tell me if there's any improvement. I know for a fact that I had a problem like this and in the process of troubleshooting I did uninstall integrated graphics. Just do it. Pretty sure others did too.

I uninstalled the onboard graphics yet still no luck, same blank screen when I plug the graphics card in. I ran a scan using a pre-installed Lenovo program to see if the PCI slot is fine and working and everything came back fine.

I too have the same problem, but I am using a HD6450. Have found a solution yet?
