Dell Dimension 3100 RAM

Hi guys,

I'm looking for RAM that would fit in the Dell Dimension 3100. The Crucial memory compatibility checker only shows DDR2 PC2-5300u RAM as being compatible but I found a guy in my area that has some DDR2 PC2-6400u RAM for sale so I wondered if they it would work.

These should work
DDR2 PC2-4200 KINGSTON,QIMONDA,SAMSUNG,Crucial,
DDR2 PC2-5300 KINGSTON,QIMONDA,SAMSUNG,Crucial
DDR2 PC2-6400 KINGSTON,QIMONDA,SAMSUNG,Crucial

Any other brand you will just have to try them.

Any of these should work as same speed,type and fits into restricted size as Dell recomends you may chose depending on price

or you could buy from dell however they only supply up to 1gb

So PC2-6400 unbuffered should be fine then?

then there may be problems as the speed is 800mhz where as from what I can find 533mhz is the right speed and is the speed of all the RAM links I provided also make sure you are not looking at the ECC ram as that is more for servers/xeon motherboards and not for consumer hardware like your computer

I have access to these 2 strips of RAM:

both in 512 MB sizes.
Will any of these or better a combination of the 2 work?

Not personaly sure as have never heard of dram and missing info on that hynix site but if you have them already you may try them in your PC and if they work, they work if not it won't work but your computer will not be broken sorry that I don't know too much about the older RAM, also not running two of the same RAM, optimized for dual channel may slightly impact performance but tbh it doesn't make that big a difference worth paying an extra £10-20 for

Upgrading from a lower speed 1GB to a higher speed 1GB or RAM wont really gain you anything. If your going to upgrade double the RAM size preferably to the Max you can use, you will gain the most performance from Windows by doubling your RAM size.

1GB of PC2-4200 to 4GB of PC2-6400 is a worth while upgrade.

im not looking to upgrade though, maybe I wasn't clear. The RAM is missing, i'm looking for a replacement. I'm able to get my hands on the RAM I named previously but wondered if it would be compatible as the speed is not identical and I'm not sure the original was unbuffered or not.

You can try sometimes Bios are picky on Brandings.
