Yeah, it was a 2 ram set so im hoping that I can keep one of my sticks, maybe they wil let me send 1 back, they might even give me 2 back when I give them the 1 then il get a free 4gb stick :D im gunna call them tomorrow

Yeah, I get your point. Or maybe Speccy isn't very reliable. Use HWMonitor instead and use Memtest86 to check whether there is an issue with the RAM.

Yes agreed, either memtest86 or he can also try one stick at a time and check for hardware issues.
 

This will never be a software issue! The bios sees two sticks at boot time and reads the specification from the spd chip. That's why Windows sees 8GB. Next step is to write some Byte to the sticks and that's the point where one of the sticks is recognized as dead.
