[URGENT] i5 3570K vs i3 4130

I'm looking forward to upgrade my current mediocre processor which is G2030. I currently have a cheap Gigabyte H61-M S1 Rev 3.0 mobo and an R9 280X.
Both are about the same price. The i5 costs 137$, while i3 with the mobo costs the same.
i5 has 1 year warranty remaining. Is it completely worth the price I pay? A new one is faaaar from affordable. The i3 combo has 2 year warranty.
My options are:
i5 with my current mobo without even USB 3.0 (no use for me currently).
i3 with H81.

For gaming I see that both are exactly equal, the i5 is just about 5 fps faster. But what about general performance? I need something fast. :p I need a future proof one, would like to keep for 5-6 years more. I know there isn't anything like future proof, but still, I'd like to have a decent one. Will a processor last that much, or should I be worried about it going dead?

If I get the i3, I get the latest socket, but since I won't be upgrading at all, soon, it is of no use because by the time I upgrade, a new socket will come. So what to go for?

Please tell me quickly. I've to decide tomorrow.

Get the i5 3570K. An i3 isn't nearly as good in some games that are multicore optimized, even though the OS sees 4 cores with the i3's hyper-threading. Unfortunately, you'd be restricted with overclocking with that motherboard, but the 3570K is fast as it is at stock.

If he already has an Ivy Bridge CPU (G2030) then he should be fine, although I may be mistaken.

An i5-3750k will do anything the latest i5-4690k can do, with only a small loss in % of performance. Can't say that about the i3, even with HT, its still not any competition. Also to consider, you can get a decent z77 for $50-$100 later, and really open up that 3570k.

@KoopaCreeper,
So is the i5 completely worth at that price? Considering it's used for 2 years. Is the i5 going to be a real performance boost to my PC for general tasks? I mean like really fast?
Stock clock is more than enough for me :p

MeteorsRaining,
But the benchmarks say the i3 4th is as fast as an i5 4th I'm gaming. Is 3570K worth over that i3 with a newer mobo (cheapo one I guess)?

DarkSable,
But I've an LGA 1155 mobo. Guess there won't be any problem. At stock clocks.

Will the i5 last me for 5-6 years more without going dead? What's the average lifetime of a processor?
And is the i5 significantly faster than an i3 in other tasks than gaming?

I'm not sure where you got those results from, in most AAA titles, i5 is considerably better than an i3.

Consider this, you're just switching to a 'newer' model of the processor with same amount of power, you're not actually getting more power. An i5 will definitely last you longer than an i3 in terms of gaming performance.

Completely worth it. Only like 5-10% slower than a 4690K. Should be a large performance boost, especially while multitasking.

Yes. Will last over 10 years if you don't fry it a 5GHz or something. It would be faster for multitasking, content creation, gaming, etc.

I have a pentium II 350MHz from early 1998 that still works. Very, very rarely do cpus die on their own. 99% of early cpu death can be attributed to owner abuse, either cooking it through OC or neglect of cleaning the heatsink or physical damage.

Pretty much, if it runs good today and suffered minimal to no abuse, it'll run tomorrow

Everywhere on the internet shows an i3 4130/4150 almost on par with an i5 in most games and in some, the difference is like 5-10fps.

That's great. But an i3 will be close in general performance?

Thanks for the info.
So I need not refrain from buying used CPUs at all.

I'm from India and there are no such deals. :(

So it's okay if I'm buying a 3-4 year old processors right?

Guys, something weird happened. :(
For some reason, he says he isn't sure of selling the processor. Most probably he won't. So my only bet is the i3. Is it really inferior compared to the i5? Only thing I want is - not o bottleneck my R9 280X. It won't right? Please tell me!

Thanks.

I play skyrim with over 130 mods, a lot of which are 2k/4k texture packs, on ultra max settings, with 4x/8x AA /AF on my current rig which is an i5 3570k OC to 4.2 with a gtx 660ti SC. Skyrim is heavy in single thread performance, and that i5 3570k is more than capable of keeping up. I'm running @55% cpu usage, and in heavy grass @64% gpu.

Yeah, being 3 years old means nothing to an Ivy-Bridge cpu, the output is less than 10% difference to a brand new i5 4690k, or 2-4 fps basically.

Thanks!

i5 is a beast I know.

I can get a used 2500K for like 120$, but I'm not sure it's worth it, because it's used for 3 years at least.
And there are some which 2320, 2400, 2310 for like 100$ range. But are they better than the new i3?

Yeah, it being used is not a big deal. CPUs are made to last at least a decade if they are properly used.
