Two years ago I bought a Lenovo 401k with a Pentium G65 2.9hz

Since that time it has become primarily a dvr slant dlna server. It is NOT used as a HTPC. Basically a video/music (homegroup) server and light household (quicken/open office) work for me only.

Current Upgrades: windows 8.1 pro(transferrable) on a sandisk 128 ssd, 2tb HD drive and a nivida g-force video card for running 2 monitors.

I'm out of sata ports (3 sata 1 esata), drive bays and cpu power. I'd like to get a couple more years out of it and can live w/o another drive bay by using a 5.25 adapter in the floppy bay.

Is it worth a budget of $250 to upgrade or am I better off pulling the drives and starting from scratch when I have more money?

Intel Core i3-4130 3.4GHz Dual-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
G.Skill NS Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory

No those wont work for you. Those adapters require port multiplier which Intel doesnt support under windows.

Since you have an uefi bios you can use the newer large drive (above 2.2TB) and replace drives
or get an external raid enclosure that comes with a card. For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132015 **
Or use a couple of USB drives for less demanding data.

** this is an example of what I mean, not a recommendation as I have never used one myself.

My Bad, I thought you had already upgraded to that equipment and were out of room/sata ports... so I'm not sure what you mean by the floppy drive adapter. I had thought you meant a raid controller (which uses port-multiplication) but now I see you meant just a mounting adapter.

So yes that would work. BT a 3.5" harddrive would screw right into the floppy drive bay; its 3.5" also and usually has holes that line up with an hdd.

Uefi gets you easy access to those large drive (that you format in GPT and not MBR by the way)

ps - you may need to completely reinstall windows for the new motherbd, just to keep you informed.
