asrock z97 anniversary doesn't start

Hi all, i am facing a problem with the asrock z97 mb, as it doesn't start. Can anyone figure out what might be the problem? Could it be the power supply unit? I have placed the connectors in any possible way but when i press the power button the fans seem to start working but after a second the mb turns off. I have to mention that i have plugged the atx power connector, 24-pin.

Hi blackbird. Sorry i am not very good with pcs. Could you please be more specific? Is there something specific that i have to look for? Could it be the PSU or the connectors? Thank you very much.

Asrock z97 anniversary
G 3258
Ddr3 1600 hyperx
Gpu gts 450
2x hdd wd 80 gb
Psu 550w which hasn't a atx 12v plug. Could this be the problem? I have plugged only the 24-pin Atx connector

Dr-8550 - brand Premier. I have it for 3 years now and i didn't thought that this won't have this plug. I will have to go for a new one too. Thank you very much.
