I have not done a build in almost 20 years, but I felt confident that it was doable.
The construction was straightforward and enjoyable, and the system booted up fine.
Since a new cpu was detected, I was prompted to use the setup utility. I selected the Asus Performance option and chose air-cooled, etc. It was simple.
I then chose to save and exit. The system immediately shut down, then restarted, immediately shut down, then restarted, and continued that loop until I pulled the power.
I have tried to use the MemOk button, but it does not seem to work at all.
What silly mistake have I made?
System specs:
Asus Z97 Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1
Intel I7 4790k
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 2x8gb DDR3 1600
Nvidia Geforce GTX 660ti
Seasonic 750w 80+ Gold full mod
Samsung EVO 240gb SSD

THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE!

Solution
Try clearing the CMOS (unplug the power cord and remove the CMOS battery for a minute).
Have you freshly installed Windows, or using the old one?

The SSD came from my old system and has Win 7 Pro 64 bit installed.
I will try to remove the battery, thank you!

Removing the battery did the trick. I selected default/normal settings and it started the boot, but Windows is not happy with it. At least the system will power up now, thank you!!!!!

kirsR from another pc cd download from asus the bios renamer tool and the newest bios 2302 for your mb. run the bios renamer and then copy the renamed bios file to root of a usb stick. on the back of your mb the bottom usb port is the usb flashback port. with the power off plug the usb stick in and press the usb flashback button and hold it for 2-3 sec. the usb flashback light will turn blue and blink for a few min then turn off. it will update and reset your bios at the same time. when you go into the bios on the main page turn on xmp profile and set it to profile one.
all you need to do is set the priamny diplay to pci from auto.
under boot tab change the hard drive boot to your ssd.
turn on fast boot and turn off mb splash screen if you dont want to see if asus splash screen.
you should not need to change any other settings.

Then, if able to boot after clearing the CMOS, I suggest reinstalling Windows.

First I would start off with a clean reformatted SSD. Once the components are installed in the case. Use the motherboard installation disc to load all of the motherboard drivers. I would download the latest version of the BIOS from the motherboard webpage. Then do a fresh install of the operating system.

The system was probably trying to update when you unplugged it. I would start over like above to avoid any confusion.

Thanks for this suggestion. I will do it today.
It seems that I need to reinstall Windows, also. Windows fails to start, no matter what I try.
