Im currently in the process of building a new PC so I went to microcenter today and noticed that they had the MSI Gaming 5 motherboard (open box) for a ridiculous 48 dollars, thats almost a 100 dollar discount. I opened it and checked and it had everything still in there including all the accessories and no visible damage on the mobo. I had to get it eventhough it seemed too good to be true, i will get to test it once i put the rest of my parts together, but i wanted to ask your general thoughts on open box mobos? have you every bought one and if so how well did it work?

As long as everything was included then you got a great deal. I have been in the return line at MC and watched people bring mobo's back because their ram, PSU, or GPU was bad instead of the board. Some lacked the driver disc or SATA cables but the boards were fine.Other times a box gets opened for display purposes or someone opens it in the store just to look at it. For over a 50% reduction in price, I would have no problem buying one after I checked it out and made sure there were no scratched traces or burned or melted spots on the board. AS DO noted, there is a huge market for good open box or certified boards.

MC has a no questions asked return policy so any problems, take it back. They still offer warranty on open box goods though the period may be a bit less. You should be fine so enjoy your new board and the extra money in your pocket. :)

it ok, but some people just dont like to get open box item to use.
sometime I will using open box item just because it "CHEAP"

but make sure, if the mobo still on the warranty, then it will not cause any problem at all
