I have an older motherboard with a free onboard usb 3 connecter, but without sata 3. I was looking at getting an ssd in the future. Would i be able to use something like this http://amzn.to/1xP3SIe and this http://amzn.to/1y6Jvqh to get the ssd going without being bottlenecked much? I know that usb 3.0 only has a 5 Gbit/sec bandwidth compared to SATA's 6, but would this work well? Also, would I have issues using this as a boot drive, or any other issues with this kind of setup? Or would it even work at all? Any help is much appreciated thanks in advance!

Solution
If you have SATA ports available I would recommend using them. Using a USB adapter, you probably don't get TRIM or AHCI support. An SSD on SATA 2 is still WAY faster than any mechanical disk.

no problem at all, it shoudnt give any problem... its an adapter so you can use it without any problem... feel free tod o it... but i would never use a device connected to any usb port as a boot device...
i would recomend to use pcie to sata adapters instead if you have any pcie x1 free slot... sometimes is safer to have it inside than outside...
also if you have any 3.5/5.25 bay not in use, there are many usb 3.0... bays/adapters... etc... some brands even have a dual 3.5hdd + 2.5 hdd to be pluged in a single 5.25 bay with 2 usb 3.0 for around 40$...
there are some pcie x1 to usb 3.0 and mobo expantion options, depending your case...
