Your PSU is most likely good enough. Quality PSUs has almost becomed a religion. With your low-end system I personally would not worry. But in the future, go for quality just to be safe.
i dont know what you mean "normal psu" not gaming?
always get a quality psu, dot go with a generic heap of rubbish. Look for a quality 350w+ unit, you have a very low power system. Better off getting higher quality and less watts it will last longer. Some of the generic psu's labeled 600w are 600w peak, and can only do half that under continuous load and are often ticking time bombs.
here is a good one:

It is unlikely, but i have seen sata connectors melt and smoke. I have seen numerous psu's explode in puffs of smoke (used to work for a pc manufacturer in building, testing, warranty), often when they explode they damage other components like the motherboard. They may also not produce their rated power, or not produce clean power. Many of them will work but not last more than a year before failure (like most of the "Ultra" brand psu's). So don't skimp on the psu.
