How to stop PC HDMI to TV connection damaging TV

Hi guys,

My PC burned out the HDMI ports on my TV. I replaced the main board on my TV and the PC stopped one of THOSE working too (I didn't realise it was the pc doing it till this point).

Is there any way to make sure this doesn't happen again? Preferably using software.

Hello!

This is very strange, have you tried another cable?

You PSU might be giving out to much power through HDMI. I believe there is softwere that does do this, I will have a look around.

Yea I have tried different HDMI cables but to no effect. I'll have a look around for the software you mentioned too.

well there may be a short circuit in your PC or in your t.v . Enabling to give excessive voltage across hdmi cable. Try checking the pc on another t.v or other pc maybe a laptop on that t.v. inorder to check whether the problem is in t.v or pc. Then it will be a technical fault. use a laptop on that t.v.
Maybe low or high voltages are the problem.

The problem isn't with the TV as my Xbox connects to the the HDMI fine. Is there any way to check out how much power is coming out of the PC HDMI port?

Yup. u can check the volts through a voltmeter and compare in to the volts on the hdmi cable.

Unfortunately I don't own a voltmeter. If the short circuit is the problem how would I fix it?

Try having a look around on Amazon for a piece of hardware that could measure your voltages coming out of your HDMI port, this is a very strange issue, hopfully it is easy to fix.

If there is to much power outputting from your HDMI, try changing the card, if you have a spare or old one. Because if this works then it is a card issue. If you try and new card and the issue is still there, then I would suspect the PSU.

Unfortunately, it's a very difficult job and a technician or an hardware expert is required. Suppose if it's a short circuit then u have to change the faulty hardware. It can be due to breaking of capacitor, resistor etc in any component of the PC. Do u remember any time when u were using your pc on low or high voltage? Change in volts can melt the capacitors enabling the component to supply large amount of volts to the hardware. In this case your affected hardware would be the graphic card and the hdmi port. If everything is working fine except the hdmi then

CHANGE THE GRAPHICs CARD.
