Hi friends

Want to take net connection from one room to another.A|B|C|D..

A is room where at present i have net connection proived by mtnl.its adsl modem provided from them only and is not wifi enabled. My modem is kept in wodeen cabinet with my PC and internet is provided through telephone line

D is the room where i want internet connection .It distance from A might be 20-30 feets.(B and C are rooms beloging to some body else). Also it has walls in bettwen rooms

I am ruling out wifi as is sinal wont be strong at D.So only option i have is to take wired coonection.

I have read about ethernet over power line and MoCA but ethernet over power line i guess wont work as we dont have any direct power wire connection between A and D.

I didnt get what is MoCA and supposed i cant even use that.

Please suggest a way out.

Also at point D i want internet connection to be wifi+wired as other wifi enabled device might be used to coonected.

So plz tell me who can i make wifi at point D .IS there any equipment other wifi router

Regards
Anoop

MoCA you would need coax tv wire in both locations.

Powerline does not have to be on the same exact circuit. It works best if it is but pretty much as long as you are behind the same electrical panel in the house it should work. How well there is no way to predict..some houses it does not work in the same room and others you can plug in any outlet and full speed. What it doesn't do is work between houses...or apartments that have separate power meter/connections.

You have pretty much found all the options. Running ethernet wire on the outside of the house may end being your only other option.

Question: Why are you ruling out Wifi?

It is understood that the signal will not be as strong but 30 feet should not cause too much degradation if the rooms between are normal construction.

Take the modem out of the wooden cabinet, enable wireless, and do some wireless testing (using various channels and frequencies) from Room A to D. Wireless placement can make a big difference and you may be able to use the infamous "beer can" antenna trick to direct the signal. You may find that the wireless problem is not as bad as you expect. (Also - does the modem get hot in that cabinet? I would be concerned about eventual heat related problems....)

What model is your modem? Someone may know of a possible configuration that would make wireless viable.

Then you can move on to adding other wired and wireless devices..... may need some additional hardware.

Anoop,

Are you saying that it is not possible to move the mtnl.its modem (just temporarily) out of the upper cabinet? Even if you use a longer cable (or add an extension) to connect back to the telephone box?

If that is the case (or if there are other constraints eliminating wireless) then bill001g's response is your answer.
