CPU Temperature Dangerous or Not?

Folks, This is my second and last thread on CPU temp. My processor is i5-2400
I just checked my CPU temp with some games and the temps are going 75C max, but after some hours (may be after 1:30 Hours). But in one game (i.e. Evolve) temp goes to max 80C just after 30mints. No turbo is applied and using stock cooler (of Cooler Master). I have applied simple thermal paste(of non-branded company).
Idle temps are from 31C minimum to 42C max. During browsing temps goes to max 48C.
I also checked another system having i5-2400 cpu, its temps not rises above 50C on same game which I was playing on my system(in game I was inside house). That system was using intel heatsink cooler.
Whats the main problem of high temp? thermal-paste or other reason? As in June and July when city temp goes to 38C, my CPU will get 80C+ on gaming, thats I think not good.

For a stock cooler getting above 80C under load with a warm ambient temperature isn't unheard of. Most Intel processors won't throttle until you get over 95C in fact. So if the engineers at Intel think the processor is okay being that hot then I would feel comfortable letting it be.

That said, since you have another PC with the same CPU which is running cooler maybe we should investigate further. There is a chance your CPU is getting too much voltage on the stock voltage setting in the BIOS. What you should do is get CPUZ and some sort of CPU torture test; and find out what your voltage is reaching under load. Also see if your BIOS gives you a voltage reading also. The PLL setting in the BIOS has been known to give the CPU too much voltage when it turbo boosts.

Hello... I always spread the paste flat and even before mounting... Air pockets/bubbles will cause problems.
Thermal paste is the medium to replace the AIR, where metal to metal contact is not possible... AND using too Much paste is not better here.
It will take time ( week ) for the Paste to spead out and allow metal to metal contact agian between the Cooler and CPU.

You might want to re-apply, and try a "Thin Even Film", spread with your Finger, to see the temperature difference with this technique.

I agree with the previous comments as well, bad circulation in the case will cause CPU temps to gradually climb very high, where as too much voltage will make the temperature very hot within seconds, that's been my experience.

I just upgraded stock cooler on my amd fx 8350 to a coolermaster hyper evo 212. £24 on amazon.

I was amazed at the difference it made.

Stock was idling at 30-40 And 60 under load at stock cpu speeds

Now with the coolermaster cooler I idle at 19 and don't go past 50 under load and that with the cpu over clocked to 4.6

Just a thought

at idle, voltages are 0.9436- 1.160, during gaming I think voltages was max 1.263 but I will again confirm it. These voltages I think is not bad as my CPU and other one has same voltages. Some says to me that thermal paste applied is of low quality, because stock cooler uses high quality thermal paste and also he says that the cooler may be not seated as it should be. Does these mentioned problems really cause so much high temps? My system case is medium, only one case fan is attached.

Beef up the case fans have 2 pulling air in at the bottom of the case and 2 taking air out of the case at the top...that plus a new cpu cooler and good wire management and you should be cool...literally lol
