Hi there,

Recently I have attempted to upgrade our family PC so that my brother and dad can get some better performance when playing games. The machine in question is a HP Pavilion P6-2185ea (i5-2320, 8GB RAM, Radeon 7450). We got a new GPU along with a new PSU from PC World (big mistake I know, but it shut my brother up at least that was the intention). However the OEM motherboard didn't support full UEFI components as HP hadn't updated the BIOS to that point. So we order a new motherboard the MSI H61M-P31/W8.

I install all the components into the motherboard and turn the computer on, it doesn't POST only boot loops (takes a few seconds after turning on to restart) and as far as I can tell it should come with the BIOS version (7788v30) that supports the CPU I want to use. I've tried unplugging everything apart from the power button, CPU power & the 24 pin ATX power, however it still did not post. I also attempted to unplug the cables and plug them back in multiple times in addition to this I reseated the RAM and CPU multiple times. Also tried just using 1 stick of RAM, but still didn't work.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have just attempted this using a case speaker from an old case I had lying about. It was 3 long beeps, however the manual for this motherboard is very sparse in information it provides with no information regarding beeps :/

Now I'm getting somewhere! Managed to load up the BIOS with one stick of 4GB RAM in :)

Update: Attempted to boot with 2 RAM sticks in, just boot looped. However using DIMM1 with one stick of RAM causes the same issue :/
