Hello, i'm finally coming back to starcraft 2 HOTS , i'm a noob lol, but i'd like to know like drills and ways to learn and just get better, maybe like mental checklists (things to always look out for ) etc ; when i first started i was terrible, and still am, i'm a league/ dota player, so my extent of micromanaging isn't on "par" but maybe there might be some drills, i might practice and learn...

For someone new or newish to the game there just aren't tips that'll be really helpful for you.

For someone new or newish to the game there just aren't tips that'll be really helpful for you.

I can't tell you how to get amazing but I help you learn how to get good enough to figure out for yourself where you go next.

For a begginer, you need to treat the game like chess - That means that you don't want to think at all about actually playing the game as such. You learn an opening, you practice it until you can execute it without sweating. You don't think, you don't improvise, you learn how to execute this pre-determined opening. Don't play against people, just against bots (the SC2 bots are actually pretty good for learning against), then win or lose you watch the replay and see where you made mistakes in your opening.

Why? Because this is what you need to do to be anything like competitive. It'll teach you about timing, it'll teach you about how quickly you need to get up and running and where you want to go from that point. I learned by taking the audio from a youtube video of someone else doing the opening I wanted and running it while I played, so I had someone standing there telling me exactly when to do everything.

It takes practice (took me a weekend) but you'll get there. And from that point the future is yours. Once you are good enough to execute an early game and defend yourself then you'll win a decent chunk of games in the early leagues simply by having a better developed army (and winning matters man. It really does. Even when the other guy doesn't put up much fight it keeps you motivated to get a nice win when you execute well). And since you can hold on into the mid game, you can try out all kinds of things and transition into whatever you enjoy (SkyTerran!).

But you do need to put the work in. It's worth it though. You feel like a real boss when you play online for the first time ever and don't drop a game for two weeks (which happened to me as I blitzed through the lower leagues. I may have over practiced ;))

Adding to the previous post with a much shorter post cause im lazy:
Learn some set builds, supply timings etc. I know for two seasons I was able to place in bronze and get to platinum in a day or two just executing the same 4-gate timing every single game. It was fairly boring, but practice is practice.

Once you learn some basic openers and mid game transitions then the game takes off. You will find yourself at the end of an opener a base ahead of your opponent, at which time you can set the pace of the game, experiment a little.

One of the best tips for mid range players is to try to set the pace of the game, if your opponent is trying to counter you, you can do so first.
