Just curious since I've seen multiple sources saying you cannot do this? They are all talking about downloading the installer from a system with 32bit though.

If I insert installation media(64bit dvd or usb with 64bit version downloaded) and boot it from bios with 32bit system, will I be able to install 64bit os?

Solution
Doesn't matter if there's a 32-bit system already installed - you're booting from the installation media before it even gets to load the OS.

After you boot from the media directly, you'll be given an option during the installation to wipe the hard drive. Do so, continue installing Windows, presto change-o, you now have Windows 8.1 64-bit.

This depends on where and how you buy the 64bit OS.
If you buy from MS, and try to 'download/upgrade', and you're doing it from a 32bit PC...you may well end up with a 32bit Win 8.1 install.
Don't do that.

If you have a 64bit install, no problems. Boot from that and proceed.
