tea urchin :
Your logic is logical but flawed. the ram timing you see is a a 'cycle time delay' (in clicks)
so the smaller number is faster ram timing not the larger.
Dual channel means the north bridge memory controller can overlap 'talk to' sessions with memory sticks resulting in an 8-15% speed increase.
The existing stick certainly is of lower spec compared to the later stick.However.
Run Si Soft Sandra to confirm whatit is all running at now.
The original stick may have been capable of higher performance right from the factory.
(It was just sold/binned as 1333 for warranty reasons) and putting a faster stick in the board may have pushed it to evaluate and run at optimal for both sticks.
Bios on factory laptops is not a very precise tool.
Come back with a si soft sandra report.
In the mean time, if you get the higher spec run times with dual channel mode dont fret too much;its a bonus. Run cpu-mark if you dont believe me.
(put another way, your laptop should run both sticks at the lowest speed but it isnt; while the system is stable question not and play.)
Hi Tea Urchin
Please see below for Sandra readings, I hope they make sense to you. Please let me know if anything out the ordinary as I would hate to damage
my new laptop.

Performance Enhancing Tips
Warning 100 : Large memory sizes should be made of Registered/Buffered memory.
Tip 2546 : Large memory modules should be ECC/Parity.
Tip 232 : Newer CPU stepping exists. Newer steppings contain fixes and may have better overclocking potential.
Warning 2528 : System monitor device implementation is known to vary.
