Hi

I am new to this site and I am hoping you can all help please.

I have just bought a new laptop which is HP 455 Probook G2 - AMD A8 7100 processor with 4gb Hynix 12800 1600mhz DDR3L sodimm 204 pin RAM, running Windows 7.

I have a brand new 4gb Crucial 10600 1333mhz DDR3 sodimm 204 pin RAM which runs at both 1.35v & 1.5v.

Now for the technical stuff (for me anyway)
I have downloaded Speccy as a test tool to see the difference in figures and they are as follows.

Before I installed the Crucial RAM it reads 11 clocks running at DRAM frequency 810mhz single channel
After I installed the Crucial RAM it reads 9 clocks running at DRAM frequency 6??mhz dual channel
Now my logic tells me the first figures are better.

Bios & system both detect the different RAM sticks and their individual speeds and the laptop runs well. The reason for my concern is that HP state that the motherboard wont run the lower speed RAM.
I am doubting Speccy figures as it also says that my processor is running at 104 degrees and yet cold air is blowing from the vent.

So my questions are as follows.
Will I do any damage to Laptop (motherboard or existing RAM) by running both together?
Is it better to run just the faster RAM on its own?
Are the figures before installation better?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Tea Urchin
Thanks for your reply. I am not sure I understood your full answer (sorry for my ignorance). However I did get that if they are working then it is fine. I think your saying that the lower figures I quoted are better? The laptop came with the higher spec RAM in it not the other way round but no matter your answer seems to be clear any way. I will reinstall the Crucial RAM (not the factory fit) and run with both. I will download Si Soft as soon as I get a moment and report back with the figures. I will "question not and play" as you say in the mean time. Many thanks

Performance Enhancing Tips
Warning 100 : Large memory sizes should be made of Registered/Buffered memory.
Tip 2546 : Large memory modules should be ECC/Parity.
Tip 232 : Newer CPU stepping exists. Newer steppings contain fixes and may have better overclocking potential.
Warning 2528 : System monitor device implementation is known to vary.
Tip 2 : Double-click tip or press Enter while a tip is selected for more information about the tip.

Hope to hear back from you.

Many thanks

Hi
Your best guess is better than mine :)
I have no stability issues at all and all is working fine. Your right its not worth buying anymore RAM as this was bought for my old laptop and never used.
I don't use the laptop for gaming just a bunch of office programs and internet.
I am happy as long as its not causing any long term issues with my new laptop.
Thanks for your help and advice
Thanks again for all your help

My advice would be to manually set the timings and voltage to match. Would perform better even if the speed is slower. Also depends on your cpus IMC. If your cpu only supports ddr3l need to keep below voltage recommendation. But to find that perfect match would mean trial and error. The only other concern is cpu temps. Now if that number of 100+ is accurate. Meaning 100c your in trouble but 100f is safe... Most CPUs have a threshold of about 90c. Seeing that you might be running AMD they tend to run hot.
