USB/Flash drive won't show on my laptop

I've plugged my usb device into my laptop and it makes the sound suggesting that the device is connected but it doesn't show up anywhere. I have tried using other usb devices on the laptop and I have the same result, but when I use it on a different computer it works fine. can somebody please help

I'd suggest you to try updating your USB drivers through Device Manager in Windows.
You just need to go there and uninstall all the drivers listed under USB controllers, by right-clicking on them.
Afterwards, reboot the laptop and wait till Windows Updates re-installs the missing drivers.
