How loud is the Hyper 212 Evo's fan?

This is mostly a question to those who own or have owned the cooler in question. I have been considering getting the hyper 212 evo for a budget pc I am building, as it seems like a great price/performance cooler. However, I know some people have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it is an excellent cooler, but I have also read its fan is very loud, and can even be heard through silent optimized cases like the define r5. Can anyone confirm this? Also, does the heatsink support push-pull or can you only mount a fan from one side?

Thank you for the help!

The fan's noise level can be quiet or loud. Here are the results:

9 db at it's quietest which is OK. And it's max is 31-36, which is quite loud. Secondly, It does support push / pull too :)

I have the predecessor, the 212 PLUS.
The fan is as silent as it can possibly be. The only way I can hear it is to take the side panel off, and stick my head right in the case.

Everyone's ears are different, but I have not found it to be noisy, even under full load.

You could theoretically do a push/pull on it, but tests have shown little to no benefit over just the single fan:

I have one, and is really quiet. Even at heavy loads you can't hear it. I have it installed in a NZXT Phantom 410.
The push/pull config is worthless if you have a good rear exhaust, so don't waste your money on another fan. Hope this helps and good luck with your build!

The fan is fairly quiet even at full speed. You would need to have the case side panel off to hear it.

Mount the fan in either push or pull. Adding a 2nd fan for push+pull does not help much at all. Not worth it.

Heatsink can mount horizontally or vertically on CPU socket. So it can be rotated to blow hot air toward back or top of case, depending on your preference.

I've heard people say it's loud, I installed one with the single fan it came with on an i5 4960k with a mild overclock (4.2ghz) and it's almost silent. I didn't mess with the fan profile so it's not forced to full speed all the time but even running prime95 26.6 small fft's it never got loud. Under normal operation (not stress testing) I have to look at the fan to make sure it's spinning since I can't hear it with the side panel off. Definitely can't hear it over the fan on the hd 4850 gpu idling.

Like others mentioned, push/pull is more about looks or theory. In practice it isn't worth the price of the additional fan and it's close enough to the rear exhaust fan I have a feeling all a second fan will do is create turbulence between the 2nd cpu fan and rear exhaust. Some larger air coolers do use multiple fans but those are usually very thick/wide single tower or dual tower coolers.

Not sure which system you're going to install it on, if I recall right amd systems the cooler needs to be mounted horizontal with the fan pointing up in order for it to line up. On z97 based systems, I noticed some issue with the ram clearance. The cooler needs installed first, then the cooling fan (the fan blocks the mounting screws). It was a little bit of a pain with all 4 ram slots full but thankfully I had low profile ram in the first slot. Standard or taller profile ram in the first slot, the fan will press against it slightly.

Just my thoughts on it, when it's on sale for $24 it's a good little cooler. At $30 (current price on pcpartpicker) there are better options like the cryorig h7 for $32.50 right now at newegg. The h7 is designed similarly to the 212 evo except the cooling pipes are offset meaning 0 ram conflict with the cooling fan installed.

Hello haris262,

I currently own Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. On web surfing,it works on 750-800RPM.(CPU temp 27-30C),on load it's 900-980RPM (CPU temp 35-38C). I own i5 4690k and Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H. Runs on stock settings.

All best,
Randor.
