PC only finds 8gbs of ram but I have 16gbs

I recently purchased 16gbs of 2133mhz Gskill sniper series ram and put into my PC. When I look windows and CPU z only show 8gbs. It was a quad channel kit and my mother board was a dual channel but I didn't think it matterd. My mobo is a msi 970 gaming.

Could be your OS - Win7 Home Basic only supports 8 GB of system memory - also, what does BIOS and Windows indicate it is running?

If you are running Home Basic then you have a max limit of 8GB you can use, Home Premium tops use at 16GB, then Ultimate, Pro and Enterprise versions of Win jump to 192GB of DRAM
