Hello PC Experts. I'm new to the PC world, and im trying to build a Gaming PC. My friend told me to get a i5 Haswell Quad core processors because games today need a quad core and I said okay ill see what I can do. So when I searched up Intel i5 Quad Core on eBay there were a lot of models like 4440, 4590, 4690k etc. But I don't know what's the difference that each processor has a 3.1ghz or more but some have the same ghz. I know the 4690k is best for gaming but im trying to save a bit more money on the other ones. I had an eye set on a i5 4590 haswell quad core 3.3ghz for $185 but some one else got it. But there's a i5 5490s 3.0ghz for $179 is this a good processors, and is there a difference ? Thanks.

PC Build:
CPU: Intel i5 Quad Core 4th Gen. processor (Not sure which model im going to get)
Motherboard: Asus Z87-A (But no to sure I have a thread about this motherboard if you guys can check out)
GPU: GTX 960 2gb (Not sure if I should get it due to good/bad reviews on it, I might save a little more $ to try to get a GTX 970)
Memory: G.Skill 4GB 1600mhz
Storage: Western Digital Blue 1TB 7200rpm 64mb
OS: Windows 7
Power Supply: EVGA 500w Bronze Certified 80 PLUS
Case: NZXT Phantom 410

If you're not in to overclocking, live in the USA, and live near a Micro Center, they have an i5-4590 3.3GHz for $159. Otherwise, the i5-4460 is probably your best value online.

Hello Ghost.

I was in your position a few months ago having come back to PC gaming after a while and I was clueless. But since I built my PC lately and it works, I have a bit of up to date knowledge I can share.

I think quad core is definitely the way to go with regards to gaming, is the general impression. Especially to future proof your computer. i5 4460 seems a good bet but i5 4690k (unlocked is better if you can afford it). Stay away from AMD processors.

Looking at your system I would get more RAM if I were you. When I am playing battlefield 4, I use 6Gb RAM. System requirements for BF4 is minimum 4gb, recommended 8Gb. I have heard that system requirements are not always right though. I would just get 8Gb to future proof.

The graphics card is the most important component for a gamer. The 960 is a decent card. I have an r9 270, it runs all games on ultra settings in full HD and is somewhat cheaper than the 960. Its the component that both of us will probably have to upgrade in some fashion in the future as games become more demanding. (but youll get a good while out of it).

Use CPUBoss and GPUBoss to compare chips and cards,

I would not ever recommend CPUBoss or GPUBoss. They have poorly updated information, poor sources, and poorly weighted "ratings" that mean very little.

Well I am no expert. I just assumed the passmark scores etc were accurate and didn't think about their testing procedures etc. I would say though that a number of people claim the benchmarks are accurate, (which is mainly what I used) but to ignore the scores/recommendations. On second thought, it is probably worth looking at a number of different benchmark sites.
