Wasn't sure if this should go under Win7 or CPU forums. Was about to put an upgraded CPU (Phenom 945) in my Win7 Dell Inspiron 570 (Sempron 140) and noticed in the Uber Upgrade post on Dell's forum that Kisianik talked about reinstalling the OS after the CPU upgrade. He was upgrading to an overclocked Phenom 965 so I wasn't sure if the reinstall was required for all CPU upgrades. Anyone know?

I didn't need to reinstall after going from an AMD FX-8350 to an I7 2600. I think you should be ok. Back your stuff up anyway which you should already be doing. If it is the same socket and same motherboard it will be fine. I took a risk with mine and it paid off. Still running the same installation 8 months later. Just back your stuff up, try it if it does work great, if it don't then you are prepared.
