i really like the r9 290x lightning edition from msi and i was about to buy it instead of gtx 970 but some guys say that amd cards are bad at video editing or just recording games i just really REALLY BADLY want to buy that lightning card but that is my problem. so question - is amd r9 290x that bad at video editing? lite video editing?

Solution
It depends on what software you use mostly for video editing. Some software will offload compute onto the gpu using either Cuda or OpenCl. Cuda is Nvidia, OpenCL is what AMD uses. So if you know what software you are using, that helps a lot in determining.

Someone saying amd cards are bad at video editing sounds like an Nvidia fanboy.

I would go with the cheaper gtx 970. The gtx 970 and the 290x exchange blows but a lot of times the 970 wins. The 970 wins on thermals and power consumption hands down.

If the same price, I would go with Gtx 970. Usually you can find a 290x cheaper.
That 290x is an expensive one.

If you are buying a new monitor I would go with the AMD card and buy a freesync monitor. Freesync monitors are cheaper than gsync.

Are you sure you want an x99 chipset and cpu? They don't benefit gaming, but would benefit rendering videos.

yes, about that, all the parts will be with me for about christmas so for that time i think 6 core and ddr4 ram will help me and i also think that the prices will go down. so i think i'll go with gtx 970 but not sure i will buy a monitor. i have one 1080p but it doesn't supports gsync so i think i'll buy one for the next year. i have a question if 1tb hdd (wd black) and 250gb ssd (samsung 850 evo) will be big wnough to store some videos and about 15-20 games. i'm a first tine builder, now i have 3-4 years old pc with gts 450 and i3 processor :p with 500gb hdd so i don't know how much i really need i don't want to waste money on that if i wont be using it

If you are not building until christmas, you should do your research closer to then. New cpu's and graphics cards will be out. Just because something is older doesn't mean it will be a better deal. Electronics prices tend to be a bell curve, high in the beginning when they are new. High in the end of their life because demand has dropped well below supply.

I tend to think 250gb ssd as the minimum size you want. With this size you can have your most played games on it and your OS of course. 250gb is not enough for 15-20 games if you want to play a lot of modern titles which tend to be bigger. However, you can install to your mechanical drive if you run low on room.

ok, i'll build a system with
MSI GTX 970 TWIN FROZR V
INTEL I7 5820K
CORSAIR H100I CPU LIQUID COOLER
XFX XTR 750W PSU
500GB SAMSUNG 850 EVO SSD
2TB WD BLACK HDD
MSI X99S GAMING 7 MOBO
G.SKILL RIPJAWS 4 16GB (4X4) RAM
NZXT H440 MID-TOWER CASE

I hope it'll do the job for the next 3-4 years but i think i'll do upgrades on each part every year. thanks for the useful answers :)
