I am about to purchase a video card upgrade and not quite sure if I need to upgrade my mobo as well.

Should be fine.
Yes upgrade your motherboard if you want to overclock your cpu

Current board is really not suitable for FX 8 core so the upgrades are viable!

A motherboard cannot bottleneck!
Only a CPU can bottleneck the GPU

There shouldn't be any problems in upgrading your current rig
