HTPC/NAS Build Ideas $2000

I am looking to build an HTPC that will be used to run Plex, XBMC, and Hyperspin. I would also like this PC to function as a NAS. I really don't have any preferences on parts for this build, just need something that will be able to stream Plex in 1080p, and run emulators smoothly up to GameCube/PS2. I would like to include an optical drive that can read/write blue ray.

Is an HTPC/NAS combo a good idea or would I be better off with two systems?

Budget is $2000 (which is probably overkill), needs to include Windows. Keep in mind this will be used in my living room connected to a TV so I am looking for a relatively compact case that still has room for 3-5 HDD. Would a $2000 budget be capable of also running higher end games from my Steam library?

Thanks.

Solution
it only has 2 internal 3.5" which is why i suggested the 6 tb drives so you won't need to upgrade. you could always start with 1x6TB it will take you a while to fill that. to be honest though, i would go with these changes

the case is much bigger, and requires a slot load optical drive, but it has 10 x 3.5" internal drive slots. nice case, it...

What are the perks of that CPU? Would the going with the 970 instead of the 960 be worth the extra $100? Also, I am not completely against that type of case, but can you think of any case that is shorter/longer? Kind of like the shape of a shoebox I guess?

Would that GPU be able to run average steam games?

I don't really have a good answer to that. I don't see myself ever playing shooters on computer, so mostly non-multiplayer games (BioShock, Just Cause, maybe Borderlands?) The most graphic intensive game I have on steam is probably Metal Gear.

I like this a lot, how many drive bays does that case have? I may start out with only 8 GB of ram and 2x3 TB WD Red's and just upgrade it over the summer.
