How many fps should i be getting ??

Im asking this becuase I am playing currently on about average of 260 fps but when the action starts going ( couple of flashes or smokes) the fps drops below 200 and stays there for about 10-15 sec and get slowly back which causes kind of lag even if the fps is above 144fps
