My internet speeds are slower when I have a router.

Basically if I connect my pc directly to the internet cable I get about 92 mbps download and 90 upload but if I use a router and no devices connected to the wi-fi, I get like 50 mbps download and upload on the same PC.

I spoke to my friends and they get the same speeds, so what seems to be the problem here?

Can you let me know what program (online I assume) you are using to get these test speeds?

When you say 'connecting direct to the internet cable', what cable is this?

Can you let me know the brand and model of the router you are using? Have you ever played around with the router settings at any point in time?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

My router is TP-LINK WR840N.

I have an ethernet cable from the company. I use speedtest to get the test speeds.
No idea what's happening but to simply put it, if I don't use a router I have up to 90 download and upload on my PC but if I do the speed almost cuts in half without having any other devices connected to the Wi-Fi

It certainly does not follow logic. You mention that the company gave you an Ethernet cable. Is this already connected to a router etc as chances are I would think it is?

Hope this helps - We will find a solution.
