Fx6300 + r9 280x + EVGA 500w 80+ psu

You're fine. You are well below the power draw of that system. Everyone always over estimates what you need Wattage like. EVGA PSU's are usually pretty good, however you should check yours against known shitty PSU's. Some companies like Corsair/EVGA/XFX have quite a range of PSU's because of who they get to make their PSU's for them.

Yours might be on tier 3, you should be ok. Go with the 280x it's such a good deal for the money. Screw the 128bit frame buffer/2gb of ram on the 960. 280x craps on it

The thing is I've already bought my mobo, cpu, and PSU. Is there another GPU you'd recommend that performs similar to the 280x and is under $200 mark?
