Remote Desktop Computing: How important is client side hardware?

Hello,

I was always under the impression that client side (the connectors) hardware to a RDP wouldn't effect the stream quality, assuming the client's hardware is decent.

However, my experience suggests otherwise. My primary computer when connected to the RDP experiences no drag or delays. My secondary computer's connection is good, but there is noticeable drag/delay and choppiness.

Primary computer specs:
i7-3930k 3.20ghz
32gb memory
geforce gtx 650

Secondary specs:
i5-3570k 3.4ghz
16gb memory
radeon 7700

I'm wondering what needs to be upgraded on my secondary computer to get similar RDP performance to the primary. Or perhaps if the issue is not hardware related.

Appreciate advice, thanks.

From what I've seen and been apart of, three factors play into how an RDP session acts: The PC you're on, the PC your RDPing to and the network connecting the two. The physical components will surely affect how the RDP session is executed; however, looking at your specs, I don't suspect that to be an issue. If either PC is doing any heavy processing, that'll affect the session as well. What is the network like between the two? Are they on the same network, or no?
