Would you get 4790k or 4770k at my local pricing?

Which one would you get, is it worth the extra $90? Machine is going to be used for game development.

i7 4770k $325
i7 4790k $415

I would likely not even get the 4770k, if you can save another $100 I would see about the 4670k, or a 4690k if it's within $20 of the 4670k.

If your only choices are really the 4770k vs the 4790k, then it is absolutely NOT worth an extra $90 for the slight haswell refresh. The 4790k does run a little faster, as well as cooler however it is not even close to $90 worth of an improvement.

Oh I see. The performance difference is honestly not much but the 4790k does tend to run much cooler and at a higher clock speed which will help for renders. If you are going to be using this for work and productivity then I would personally get the 4790k. That $90 will be recouped if you do enough renders even if it only shaves a few seconds off. Time = money and after a certain amount of time you would see a gain. Will this extra amount of money be taking away from other areas of your build?

If you already had a 4770k then I would say no to the upgrade, but otherwise for a new build I would go with 4790k.

This is going to be an upgrade build.

Here's my current spec:
Western Digital 1TB Caviar Blue SATA III, 64 MB
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 2 GB WindForce 2, 2xDVI/HDMI/DP
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P, AM3+, AMD 970, DDR3, ATX
AMD FX-4170, AM3+, 4.2 GH, 12 MB, 4-core
Thermalright True Spirit 90
Kingston HyperX 4x4GB, DDR3 1600 MHz, CL9
OCZ 500W ModXStream Pro Power Supply
OCZ Agility 3 120 GB 2.5” SSD SATA III
Xigmatek Asgard Gamer ATX

I plan on getting a new motherboard and a new CPU. And maybe a new case and a new cooler. I don't have a real budget but I am a value oriented person and hate spending extra money.
