Been having this problem for a couple of days now. My computer acts normal, until I start throwing multiple tasks at it. In particular, I get Origin going and try to get a download going, then i am running cpu ID and after burner just to monitor and see what exactly is going on... after about 10 minutes everything starts crashing/not responding. I cannot even get the task manager to come up to kill tasks, the mouse and keyboard still work as normal, but i have to hard reboot, when I hard reboot, the SSD does not show up in my bios, if i reboot 2-3 times, it magically re appears... Mind you this only happened after I upgraded my operating system to windows 8.1

I am upgrading to a new motherboard and CPU tomorrow, (MSI 970 gaming, and a 8350, I CANNOT WAIT)

Am i missing something here? should i be checking something else? I figured you guys could help me out if anything. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, sorry if I left anything out.

Solution
1. Check the health of both HDD and SSD with vendor's diagnostics tool.

2. Try another SATA port for drives.

3. Try to replace SATA data cable, and if possible SATA power cable also. Good luck.
