Can you put a PCI-E 3.0 graphics card in a PCI-E 2.0 slot?

Hi everyone. I'm thinking about upgrading my graphics card and I wanted to know if a PCI-E x16 3.0 graphics card will work in a PCI-E x16 2.0 slot? I own an ASUS motherboard and it contains a 2.0 slot and I've noticed all the GPU's today use a PCI-E 3.0 slot.

yes you can it will work just fine its backward compatible

yes u can but .but if u have a 7000 mhz vga u will only get 5000 of it it means 30% lower of its performance
