well I have an fx-6300 cpu, gigabyte micro atx 78lmt-usb3 mobo, 8 gigs ddr3, gtx 960 and wd blue hdd... when I overclock in amd overdrive my system always crashes... when I overclock in bios I can get it to work... but I can only gain .3 mghz... I go from 3.5 to 3.8... when I go above 3.8 my system is very unstable... but at 3.8 my system is very stable and doesn't crash at all... I know that the fx-6350 is 6 cores 3.9 ghz so maybe they nerfed the fx-6300 to make the fx-6350 worth buying?
why cant I do a legit overclock above .3 mhz.... I use stock cooling BUT it crashed when I was doing non-intensive stuff like starting my pc and restarting it... so i dont think its heat related at all... I only want to get it to 4.0 or 4.1 ghz... I know stock cooling is bad but I think a .5-.6 MHz oc is fine with stock cooling imo... so have any ideas why I can only oc .3 MHz?

As little as possible, as much as needed. Look up an overclocking guide (google fx 6300 overclocking guide) and follow that. But remember, you do not have a very strong mobo, so I'd recommend not to go above ~4.2ghz at most AND make sure your temperatures are under 60 degrees at any time. Use coretemp to monitor it.
Sounds like you need to increase the vcore to get past 3.8ghz. Read some overclocking guides, increasing voltage increases heat and decreases cpu lifespan. So you don't want to overdo it. It's also a way you can fry your cpu if you push it past what is recommended.
