Hi Experts,

Not sure what to get these days.

I want the best RAM I can get for my ASUS P8P67 EVO mobo.
At least 16Gb total.
Not sure if its best to buy them as a 16Gb package or buy 2 seperate sets.
Also, is it better to put 2x 8Gb in or 4x4Gb?

Need fast stuff as Im using it as my paging file and for CAD/Rendering.

Thanks All! :)

Solution
They generally have more OC headroom then other sticks, GSkill tends to use stronger memory chips than are really needed in the lines of DRAM (Trident, Ripjaws (both the X and Z lines), Snipers, and even the Ares. The Dominators are good sticks also, on a par with the Redlines, I tend to cringe at paying a lot more for some LED lights on the DRAM, If looking for a little bling around the DRAM could get one of the fan coolers w/ led, for the DRAM (Generally around $16-25, which would still be a savings over the Dominators ;)

Can you explain your paging file comment more. It was my understanding that if you have a SSD OS drive you want to use the RAM for paging file.

Thanks Man!
Is there anyway you could provide a link to the best stuff I should get?

Nooo...that is incorrect.
The pagefile (mostly) comes into play when the system runs out of physical RAM. Then it swaps some stuff out between the RAM and whatever hard drives you've designated.

RAM is waaaaay faster than an SSD or HDD. You want to use the RAM as much as possible.

If you purposely reduce the amount of RAM by designating some of it for the pagefile, you increase the probability of actually having to use that pagefile space. But now the system has to think about actually using that. Overall, slower.

I also have 16GB RAM, and have reduced the pagefile down to 1GB, on the SSD. Lots and lots of photo work with Adobe lightroom and multiple large RAW files. Zero performance issues.

For a while, I had a 4GB RAMDisk, dedicated to Lightroom scratch space. Saw zero performance increase over just having that scratch space on the SSD.

First to use DRAM as the page file you'll need a RAMDisk which cuts down the amount of physical DRAM available, the pagefile is simply used when you run out of physical DRAM. As far as DRAM itself goes, I'd go with a 2x8GB set, less stress on the MC and can be a hair faster than a 4x4GB set. Also, it's never a good idea to mix sets of DRAM, even the same identical model - there's no guarantee the sets will play together. Without knowing what CPU you are running, there's no way to suggest a data rate for the DRAM, since you're on an 1155 prob 1333 (native) or 1600, if you have a K model CPU you can go higher.

Thanks!
Im using a i7 2600k @4.2Ghz on the Asus P8P67 Evo.
Im thinking of getting this....good idea or is there a better solution?
Is 1.65V ok or am I supposed to stick with 1.5V?

Ok, you seem to know which are superior....I also have a hard time paying extra for led-Dominators.
Which of these will work/would you buy for my motherboard? They are all 2133 Cas 9 not sure if there is faster stuff I should get.

Am I missing a good option here?

With your CPU I'd stick to the 2133/9 sets (you might well be able to carry 2400 sticks, if you found a great price, but the 2133/9 sticks should be plenty. I ran the RJ X sticks you show on my P67/2500K rig I had and they would be my #2 here, the Tri's would be #1, they were released about May of 2012 so weren't around when the P67s were released (once I started with the Tri's they quickly became my #1 on Intel (the Snipers and RJ X sets are a toss up for number 1 on AMD rigs). Mushkin would be my number 3 of this group, they too are great sticks as I said, but for my personal rigs and clients I like having the OC headroom, since the sticks are a little stronger and can move on up if one upgrades CPU orlike hear if you decide to build a Haswell or Broadwell, should be able to run either the Tri's or RJ X at 2400 maybe even 2666

You are AWESOME. I am definately going with the Trident X 2133MHz.
Just went to their website and checked the QVL & my board is there! Unlike Corsair & Asus who both had no verified testing.
Now im just trying to find the cheapest price :)
Thanx again.

Can I point you towards my other System upgrade question in the forum?....would love to know what you think I should do. Its actually why Im buying RAM now.
