major fps drop after changing power supply...

So basically, I bought a better power supply ( 50 more watts, xfx ps) and I turned my computer on and fired up some tomb raider. I was getting around 60 % less fps than i was getting before. So thinking to myself, I am assuming that it is because one of my capacitors is a bit messed up ( i had cpu waterblock pressed really hard down on it, but it seems fine), or its because I am using a molex to 6 pin adapter instead of a normal 6 pin cable. Is it possibly that the molex ones arent supplying enough power to the gpu, therefore causing insane fps drops?
thanks to anyone who helps me out on this, and have a good one!

I am currently using a 500w silverstone 80 plus rated power supply. I am using the 2 molex to 6 pin adapters for my gpu (ASUS 7950 directcuii version 2)... I also have a XFX pro series 550w power supply that i can swap it out with...

I updated the drivers about a month ago, but I have been away on vacation and I have not updated it since then... I think that the problem should go away when I update my drivers
