Using Recovery disc sent to me from MFG I can't get past the initial set up of Windows. it allows me to click install now but never gets past the "setup is starting" screen. I have left it at this screen overnight hopeful but it was not to be. Could this point to a bad hard drive? A virus or maybe a mis-configured CMOS settting? Just guessing. Any knowledgeable info would be greatly appreciated.

You can test the drive using Seatools for DOS. If the drive passes testing we can move on from there. If it can't pass testing there's not much point in going through the possibilities. I would also double check that the SATA cables are fully seated at both ends and perhaps also try another SATA cable or another SATA header on the motherboard where the cable plugs in. Retest after each change if it doesn't initially pass testing.

It doesn't sound like a drive issue, but let's be sure first.
