I have a Lenovo w/windows 8, no disk drive. I want to sell it, how do I erase with no disk drive?

Most Lenovo systems will have a reset to factory defaults option via a boot command. Something to check for on Lenovo's website.

When you say no disc drive, are you talking about not having a DVD-ROM to boot from?

If that is the issue, then you can create a USB bootable version of the Windows installation disc from which to perform a complete format here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

Another avenue would be to go to the hard drive manufacturer's, or Lenovo's website, for the factory reset tools for the drive/laptop.

If you have anything that you want to keep i would suggest you to make a backup. After you finish with that, if your Operating System isn't running from this drive, you simply go to "My computer", you choose the drive with right click and choose format. From the window that opens diselect "Quick Format" and press OK. But if your OS is running from this drive, you should make a bootable USB with UnetBootin with the Gparted Linux in it. From there you can manage all your disks and format them or do whatever...

Hope i helped

Creating a "Windows" bootable usb would be a waste of time. He could make a Bootable USB with "Gparted" as i mentioned above

Yes, that would work, but you probably would want to have some prior knowledge of how to do that. I don't know this person so I'm not sure how technically able they are. Microsoft has a nice simple walkthrough there specifically because so many systems these days don't come with disc drives.

Given that the plan is to sell the laptop a complete wipe makes more sense then suggesting to use Windows to perform a quick format, which would not erase the contents of the drive by the way, on a secondary drive.

Take all of my personal information off, such as photos, history, etc. Do you know how to do that? For some reason the settings/general path does not offer a way to scrub the hard drive. . .

Exact model of the Lenovo would help. But if you get that, just type it into their support page. There is probably a boot command that will boot a hidden partition for Lenovo's Rescue and Recovery platform. Should allow for a factory reset.

If it's Windows 8, why not use the built-in reset? Just restart the computer while holding the shift key, select troubleshoot, reset, and follow along with the prompts. This should be the easiest way to wipe your info by far.
