So today I've had a lot of computer problems, starting with bricking my gpu. Now i have a problem where i shorted my motherboard for sure when i was trying to angrily fix my computer after i set my graphics card down with the power supply connectors in and a bit of the pcie slot touching the motherboard and my computer decided to turn on (i forgot to unplug it) and i heard a small crack and a smell of burning rubber and boom i can't even get to the bios screen. My GPU fan still runs and i don't see any damage to the pcie connector but I'm worried i broke my graphics card too.

Intel i7 4790k
ASUS z97-A
GTX 970 OCUK edition

It could have shorted the PSU too, but If the smell and shock came from the mobo area it shorted the mobo and not the GPU (as long as the GPU fans still spin). If you can try and put the gpu into another computer and test it that way.

If your GPU fan still runs it is probably the mobo. If you herd a pop it is the PSU that is the problem even if the fans are powered it could have shorted it. It most likely did not cause problems to the GPU.

I don't think it was the psu because it was only a little snap and then there was a smell that was strongest at the spot where my graphics cards pcie connector was touching my motherboard.
