Which CPU would you choose between the two I named in the title?

The AMD CPU has more cores, Cheaper and more GHz compared to the i5,

But I have seen and heard that the i5 is amazing so I don't know which to go for?

Would anyone recommend another CPU in this price rage? I have also seen the
AMD APU A10 6800K CPU which looks tempting at 4.1 GHz and loads cheaper than both, What do people think of this?

Hope you can help!

A fx 8350 is NOT going to be as good for gaming as an I5 or I7. It would need to be clocked at ~8.5ghz to match the single core performance of a haswell I5/7 at 4-4.4ghz.
The I5 4690k isn't locked either, so you can overclock it given a proper cooling solution.

AMD's chips might have a higher clock rate, but they can't do as much per clock. In reality, the i5 will trash them in single threaded workloads.
The FX may have more cores, but games will only use about half of them. The i5 and the FX can both overclock, but the i5 will have a much better overclock.

I would recommend going for the i5 for the reasons stated above. It is much better at gaming. Only go for the FX if you are doing tasks that use more than 4 threads.
I would only recommend going for the A10 if you won't use a discreet GPU. Otherwise, it will get slaughtered.

At this point I am more inclined for AMD in that price range. However, I use heavily threaded applications such as server software, security analysis and VMs. However, with the greater number of multi-threaded games, it would be even. Actually, though, I might be inclined to wait for the Zen chips to come out. The high end Zen chips might be much nicer. It depends on what you are doing, though.

In gaming, they will be very close.

Older games will do better in the i5. Newer multi-threaded games will do as well or slightly better on the 8350.

The i5 is locked.

With a good board and good cooling the 8350 can be overclocked. This is more work and there is a little extra cost for a high end air cooler. But it will perform more like an i7 then.
