Hi,

I've got a question about the PSU wattage requirement for an Radeon R9 290 video card.
The manufacturer requirements say this graphics card requires a PSU with atleast 750W capacity. I think this will be a overkill in my situation.

I currently have an almost new Cooler Master 520W power supply: http://www.coolermaster.com/service/support/model/RS-520-ASAA-A1/

My system configuration will be the following:

  • Radeon R920 graphics (maximum power consumption of the card is 250W)
Processor (Intel Core i5-4590) uses 84W
    1 SSD
    1 7200 RPM Sata HDD
    1 DVD burner
Will a 520W power supply be sufficient in this configuration?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
If I have the right PSU, it has 3 x +12V rails rated for 19A each @ 408W. The R9-290 has a max TDP of 300W according to other sources. I would say the PSU is adequate but marginal. Don't OC the card with that PSU and you should be OK if you don't have the funds right now to upgrade the PSU.
