Laptop won't charge after power port replacement

Hello,

So we have this old Acer Aspire 6930, and we had to replace the power port (don't know what else to call it), since the cord tore off. However, when I replace it with a new one, it won't charge. Can someone help me identify the problem? The battery was put in and it was plugged in when I tested.

do you still have the old power adapter & if yes the look on the bottom side of both adapters to see if same voltage, wattage or more & same drawing as in what is ground side & positive side?

I only needed a port, since the wire was torn off. Maybe I should have explained that a little more. I don't think it has a wattage or a voltage, it's just a port

the jack in the laptop or the connector on the power adapter?

The jack in the laptop, as shown in the first image. And upon further inspection, the broken one and the new one are both 65W.

My dad got it off ebay. Not sure if it's the best place though...

I get some computer stuff from there too. do you still have the old cord & jack to do a comparison with new cord\jack?

I do have it, but it's safe to say that it's broken. The wires that connect to the laptop are completely disconnected from the port itself. However, you just gave me an idea... I have a soldering kit. Maybe I could solder it back into place?

go ahead as I do that all the time but then it was 1 of my many jobs for different companies soldering boards & cables.

I am not the best solderer. Couldn't get the pieces stable. Do you think someone shorted the mobo?

when you replaced the old cord with the new one, did the motherboard seem solid as in not moving?
