Hello today i decided to clean up my pc since it has been a while since the last time and when i booted it up my hdd (2nd drive only for storage) started making a new, weird noise when reading only. It's a seagate barracuda 7200. The sound i can only describe it as a very small hiccup but grindy and only when it's reading something, if i copy something to it; does nothing. Alongside with this noise the drive might also freeze for a split second very hard to notice but definitelly happening rarely. Should i really be concerned and RMA it immediately or should i try to unmount it from the chassis and make a better thorough cleanup of the drive, for dust specs etc. Any bit of info related to this will be a really big help, thanks a lot in advance. To also add i already downloaded the diagnostic tool from seagate and the drive passed all the tests.

Hey Giannis. If the drive has passed all tests you probably won't be able to RMA it now, but I'm a little concerned about the noise and the freezes. You could always try a 3rd party HDD diagnostic tool as well, to compare the results, just in case. At first I thought it might not be mounted properly after you've cleaned the computer and thus getting a weird sound, because of that. Are you 100% sure about the freezes?
If I were you, I'd backup everything important I have on that drive, just to be on the safe side, and monitor it for some time (a week at least), by testing it to see if any errors or bad sectors pop-up.
I'm afraid cleaning up the HDD physically will do you no good, so there's no need for you to dismount it, unless you want to check if it's mounted properly.

Hope that helps. Let me know how everything goes.
