Hi All,

I have a 4 GB PC3-10600 in one memory slot of my sony vaio. can I add a PC3 -12800 (4GB) in another. Can these two work together despite the clock rat eand latency differences ? or is using another PC3-10600 module my only option?

Thanks for help.

Solution
Possibly.

Generally, when two modules with different frequency ratings are installed, the system should run both modules at the lowest speed rated module. In this case here, the modules should run at 1325 or 1333 Mhz (PC3-10600). However, this may only work when the modules have same or similar characteristics apart from frequency rating. If the modules characteristics are too dissimilar, the system may not run properly with only one module recognized, or may not even boot if the system can't determine suitable settings to run both modules.

You might be lucky and get the two modules to run together, but this is not guaranteed.

That is why it is usually recommended to use modules from the same dual channel kit where the modules are...
