Hello. So I wanted to erase everything on my computer because we are giving it away. I decided to use DBAN, & I autonuked it from there. When it finished, an error "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device" occurred. I tried to go to the boot settings and change the first Boot to hard drive too, & it still took me to the same error message. My other major crisis is that I do not have the windows installation disc to be able to reboot from that. Now what can I do?

From what I can gather DBAN 'Nukes' any hard drive that it can detect by default...so it sounds like every hard drive on your system has been erased! My recommendation would be to download Windows 7 from a Torrent, assuming that you have a valid Windows key to use with the downloaded ISO. On the other hand you could look at installing Ubuntu or another viable (free) operating system.

Hi. I tried to download Windows 7 on a different laptop to burn on a disc and use it for my pc directly from Microsoft Software Recovery, I entered the product key of my pc, yet another error message occurs saying, "Unsupported product. The Product Key you entered appears to be for software that was pre-installed on a device." This is just an endless nightmare of errors. What can I possibly do now?

Contact MS and find out why your key won't work to download it. We have done quite a bit of testing among the moderators and we have yet to find a single product key that allows you to download Windows 7. You may need to get the restore key from the computer vendor or buy another copy of Windows 7, or give it away as is. The error is that the Windows version came with the computer, the MS site download looks to be only for retail copies, no other version.

Next time you wipe a hard-drive, make sure you know what the product you are using does, it worked exactly the way it should have, by wiping the drive. That means everything on the drive, including the operating system.

If you just want to delete your personal files, the way to do that is to create a new user account, then go into the control panel User section and delete your account. You can then use a program that will only scrub the free space, not everything on the drive.
