Hi, I'm at a bit of a loss here. My new PC (win 8) motherboard died so I have fixed the hard drive to an old Vista machine.

I want it to boot from my new HD (win8) but it will only boot from the old one. I have tried changing boot order etc in BIOS.

When I have vista running I can see and access everything on the new (win8) HD.

Am I missing something obvious?

Solution
If your new PC was factory-built, you cannot 'move' it's pre-installed Windows 8 from it's original system to another system.

The Windows 8 installation is tied to the motherboard of your new PC, so when the motherboard died, that Windows 8 installation effectively died with it.
