Which is more demanding in GPU? Game Settings or Screen Resolution?

I am planning to get a low graphics card which is "SAPPHIRE R7 250 1GB DDR5 128BIT" because obviously I have a limited budget. And I am also planning to get a monitor with 1600×900 resolution. Which will be the more demanding of the two? Will it be the Game Settings (maybe if I switched it to Ultra) or the Screen Resolution (maybe if I would buy a 1080p monitor)? I don't plan to play on Ultra or 1080p anyway, 1600×900 and Medium to Medium High Graphics is more than enough for me. I need your help guys.

This is actually quite easy to determine. Just multiply the number of pixels.

If you have been up to this point gaming at, say, 1280x1024, by multiplying them you get 1310720 pixels.

1600x900 results in 1440000 pixels.

As you can see, difference in number of pixels between the two resolutions is only 129280, which is less than 10%.

You can expect LESS THAN 10% FPS difference with the same card on the same level of details as before. If you had 100 fps before, you can expect 90 fps on your new resolution.

Of course, not everything is predictable and there other factors involved here (like card's bandwidth, memory limitations and so on), but this can be used as a general guideline.

With this card, I would not go for 1080p, though...

Dude with that card you should not go for a 1080p display... That is not really a gaming card to begin with so stick to the 900p and you will have to set some of the settings on medium. In the case of that card both will have a big affect. I would say go for a 720p+- display anyway...
