I have a HDD from my laptop that i used as an external with the use of enclosure. Now I tried to format it with the usual diskpart commands. and when my formatting stops at 34% for like 5hrs. i tried to remove it from the usb port and try to restart the formatting. but unluckily i cant see my harddrive on diskpart, diskmgmt.msc and My Computer. How can i return my HD to working HD? thank you in advance

Hey there jackaz and welcome to the community!
Unfortunately it sounds like either the drive or the external enclosure might be failing. I'd recommend that you try the drive internally if you have access to a desktop computer in order to see if it's recognized and download the manufacturer's diagnostic tool (or a 3rd party HDD diagnostic tool if the manufacturer doesn't offer one), to test it and see if any errors or bad sectors pop-up. It would be nice if you can try a different HDD with this enclosure to see if it works in order to be able to isolate the problem and see where's the issue.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for answering boogieman_WD[/quotemsg]
my HDD is old, from my laptop. bought enclosure yesterday. and tried it. its working. just that this morning the formatting is stuck. and i tried to remove it from my laptop and try to format again but unfortunately hd doesnt show up.

That sounds pretty unfortunate. Even though the enclosure is new, that doesn't mean that it's not faulty, but we'll tackle this issue by assuming that it's working properly. If the drive has stuck in the middle of formatting and if the external enclosure is not the issue, then there's probably something wrong with the drive itself. Having in mind you had no other choice, but to disconnect the HDD when it got stuck, this might have further damage the drive's partition and thus making it inaccessible by normal means. Try if it's detected by an HDD diagnostic tool and if it is - test it, to see if there are any errors or bad sectors, so that we know what to do next.
