Hello,
I have a reflashed Openwrt TL-WA850RE range extender that I am using as a PPPOE gateway.

as I need the 300mbps connection, I set it at 40mhz, so I can use the full bandwidth.
Problem is that the wan connection drops like 2-3 times a day.

If I set it at half speed, 20mhz and 150mbps, the connection is stable.
How come

Ignoring that this is not your standard wireless install the issue is the same if this was a end client connecting to a AP.

If you are running on the 2.4g band there is only a total of 60mhz for everyone who uses wireless. This is total for every person that lives anywhere close to you. This is why they say to use channels 1,6,11 which represent the best 20mhz divides. When you use 40mhz you are using channels 1,6 or 6,11. This greatly increases your chance of conflict with other households. When you use only 20mhz you just have a better chance to find a chunk of bandwidth to yourself.

The 5g band used to be the solution because it has so many more channels. But now we have 802.11ac that uses 80mhz (which is why it does not run on 2.4g it doesn't fit). Even worse there are new router that have 2 802.11ac radios so 1 person can use 160mhz and in most countries there is only 180mhz total.

Unless they come up with a new radio band this issues will just get worse and worse. Everyone want to max out the speed and max out the transmission power and we end up with nobody gets anything because everyone is fighting over it.
